Kostas N. Priftis, MD is Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian Athens University (NKUA) Medical School, Athens, Greece. He has been chair of the Children’s Respiratory and Allergy Unit at the Third Department of Paediatrics, Attikon University Hospital and, currently, Director of Paediatric Respiratory and Allergy Department at the Paediatric Center of Athens (Marousi).
Dr Priftis has graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1976) and defended his PhD thesis at the NKUA Medical School (1982). He completed his residency training in Paediatrics at the University of Patras (1985) and a research fellowship in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Children’s Respiratory Unit, University of Nottingham Medical School, UK (1989).
Dr Priftis is a researcher in the field of paediatric respiratory medicine focused on childhood asthma, paediatric bronchoscopy, chronic endobronchial infections, breath sounds and allergy. He has authored more than 180 scientific publications in peer reviewed international journals (h-index 50), edited 7 books and special issues (in English) and his work has received over 9,000 citations (Google Scholar). He has been supervisor of 12 PhD thesis, 15 Diplomatic dissertations (MSc), and he founded the two-year Master Program in Paedatric Respiratory Medicine of NKUA Medical School.
