Dr Fielding graduated in medicine from University of Queensland, then trained at Royal Brisbane and Prince Charles Hospitals. After completing Thoracic Medicine Training he studied and worked at Middlesex Hospital with Stephen Spiro and received an MD under the supervision of Prof Steve Bown and Martin Hetzel regarding interstitial lung treatments. He returned to Australia and worked at Princess Alexandra then Royal Brisbane Hospitals as a consultant Physician. He was Director of Bronchology there since 2003, and pursued interests in EBUS, Narrow Band and autofluorescence bronchoscopy, pleuroscopy and pleural ultrasound, and more recently Robotic bronchoscopy. He is now Director of Thoracic Medicine at Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital.
In the TSANZ Dr Fielding has served as a Board Member, on the Education and Training Subcommittee, was an inaugural co-chair of the Interventional Pulmonology Special Interest Group, and contributed to the revision of Procedural Guidelines for Training.
Dr Fielding is Treasurer of the World Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, and a board member of the Asia Pacific Society of Bronchology.
Presently he is undertaking PhD studies via University of Queensland on the topic of specimens for molecular Biology of lung cancer.
